Aromatherapy has been around for centuries. It is known as a therapeutic natural practice that is commonly performed to energize, relax, and advance beauty and health, as well allowing us to relax and destress. It may be considered an energizing or relaxing treatment, depending on the aromas used, as it generally works to unite or balance the body, the mind, and the spirit of those who are taking it, leaving the user either calm or active.

Aromatherapy as an energizing or relaxing treatment is in the first place a healing practice that involves the use of pure essential oils in a number of ways, which may include bathing, inhalation, massage or a combination of these.

The term "aromatherapy" is actually derived from two words: Aroma, meaing scent and therapy, meaning treatment. Aromatherapy as an energizing or relaxing treatment is said to have evolved over the centuries, and today is practiced in various forms across every continent.

Furthermore, aromatherapy as an energizing or relaxing treatment is designed to primarily work in harmony with your body. After an aromatherapy session, your body becomes stronger, as it has been fed with complex nutrients from the essential oils. It is worth noting that the essential oils are not something synthesized in a laboratory, deprived of all its components, they are naturally derived from plant matter, making them extremely potent.

It is a commonly held belief that essential oils generally have a relatively simple, small and lipid-soluble molecular structure that allows them to pass easily through the skin. Once the diluted essential oils are applied directly to the skin, they are then completely absorbed and penetrate deeply into the body's tissues, interstitial fluid and bloodstream. It is through this process that aromatherapy as an energizing or relaxing treatment becomes a very powerful health option. This claim is even supported by the notion that aromatherapy works because essential oils are natural rejuvenating agents that facilitate the elimination of waste matter, including dead cells, and also promote the regeneration of new and healthy cells.

Given these facts, aromatherapy is now commonly practiced in a form of massage whereby the essential oils are carried into the specific organs and systems of the body where they are able to effectively enhance the natural functions of the body's organs.
