Ed Hardy Men
In the United States the concept of metro sexuality is rapidly gaining popularity. A male who pays extra attention to his physical appearance is considered a metro sexual. While there were some references to the term in the eighties and nineties, the term was not officially used till the twenty-first century. A metro sexual is any male that behaves homosexually but is not. While the phenomenon may have existed in the past “is it okay to be a metro sexual”?
Posters, magazine covers and TV advertisements would have been filled with metro-sexuals in the eighties. In the nineties, seeing men like this became increasingly common. These men lived in the city and became the best consumers of fashion and cosmetics in the decade. Now, it is rare to find a man that doesn’t fall in the broad general scope of the term.
They all like to dress up- use hair and skin products, flaunt brands such as Levis or Ed Hardy Men, go to gay bars and own more than 3 pairs of shirts, pants and shoes for a “new look each day.
Shockingly, women don’t seem to mind any of the aforementioned characteristics. Typically concern is only demonstrated by older generations and men who live in smaller towns where they have not undergone urbanization. These men are tough as nails. For them it is also hard to understand why a man would obsess over their looks. However, it is hard to understand that metro sexuality is a new term for an old phenomenon. European men are always concerned with their appearance and had strong tastes in art and literature, however they have never been questioned about their sexuality.
Truth is there is nothing wrong with being termed a metro sexual. It is the same thing as “men who care.” When a man will wear makeup and wax his eyebrows, that is the sign of a problem. Women will believe you are gay and shy away from you entirely. As far as sexuality is concerned, it is best to stay within the conventional boundaries of sexuality. Mixing and matching is the latest things for everything else.
